When water makes its way to your Fort Lauderdale business, SERVPRO is here to help.
Fort Lauderdale is no stranger to life on the water. Its privileged position in South Florida makes its beaches a popular destination for tourism and to set up a home. Considered the Yachting Capital of the World, sunshine is the norm in this city north of Miami. Port Everglades is one of the largest cruising ports in the world, making Ft. Lauderdale a popular spot for cruisers coming from all over the globe.
The Tequesta were the original inhabitants of what we now know as Ft. Lauderdale. Unfortunately, Spaniards arriving in the 16th century proved to be lethal for the Tequesta, who were suddenly facing foreign illnesses and conflict with neighboring tribes. Eventually, the tribe dwindled to just a few, and control of the area shifted throughout the years before its significant development in the 20th century. Organized development in the area began shortly before the 1900s when the Florida East Coast Railroad finalized a route through its lands. Ft. Lauderdale was incorporated in 1911.
The Florida land boom in the 1920s challenged Fort Lauderdale’s economy as the real estate bubble burst and was compounded by the aftermath of the Miami Hurricane in 1926 and the ensuing Great Depression of the 1930s. During World War II, Ft. Lauderdale saw an influx of population due to its Naval Air Station and Port Everglades. Once the war ended, many returned to the area, and its population grew significantly.
Even though Fort Lauderdale was known as a spring break haven for college students, it attracts a wealtheir cadre of tourists nowadays. Its sizable convention center, availability of international airports, and the cruising industry have raised tourism revenue for the city. Las Olas Boulevard, in downtown Fort Lauderdale, recently underwent significant redevelopment. Financial firms, hotels, and new high-rises have all made their homes in downtown and its adjacent business district. The yacht and boating industry is pivotal for the city, including the revenue and exposure caused by the annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. American Express, AutoNation, Spirit Airlines, and many others have a significant presence and provide thousands of employment opportunities.
